"How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure."
Have you ever been hurt by someone you love? They wronged you, said hurtful things about you, didn't appreciate you, neglected you, used you. The pain is deep, and it cuts to the core. Or despite your love for your child, they turn from you, disobey you, smart off at you, disregard you and hurt you. Oh, how hard it can be to love someone who has done so much to hurt you!
"How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory."
As I've thought about the pain we endure from others, it has caused me to consider the pain I have caused Christ. Oh, the times I get wrapped up in my own selfishness and wants and forsake thanking God and spending time communing with Him.
"Behold the man upon the cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was MY sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished."
He loved me when there was nothing lovable about me. He chose me when any goodness in me was
like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). He extended His saving grace to me despite my unworthiness and uncleanness.
"I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
"Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom."
- Stuart Christopher Townend
Apart from Jesus Christ there is nothing good in me- yet,HE LOVES ME!
Despite the suffering He endured on the cross for me- HE STILL LOVES ME!
Although I fail, fall away and still cause Him pain- HE LOVES ME!
Regardless of the fact that I do not deserve His grace and can never repay- HE STILL LOVES ME!
May you be encouraged in the love of Jesus Christ today- His free, deep, unconditional, vast, never- ending love.
"O the deep, deep love of Jesus, vast, unmeasured, boundless, free! Rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me!"- S. Trevor Francis
